Lies & History (500pxl).jpg

Read V4 E1 Here (500pxl).jpg

I read George Orwell’s “1984” as a fourteen year old secondary student.  In the same year I also read a biography of Third Reich propagandist Joseph Goebbels and struggled through a 1938 imprint of “Mein Kampf”.  Whilst the latter tomes were chilling as presentations of the power of misdirection and misinterpretation, “1984” was downright frightening as a portrayal of state tyranny enabled by an arsenal of fear, lies and covert physical repression.  As a teenager I had a strong sense of the difference between right and wrong, yet even then, during the 70s and into the 80s, there was clear evidence that such qualities were lacking in the halls of power.  Government and Police corruption and criminal collusion was rife from coast to coast.  Still, despite these few bad apples in the barrel, our society was basically honest and open.

Not so today – when questioned about serious issues, it seems the first resort for nearly all politicians, police servicemen, company officials, clergymen and diplomats is to lie.  Flat out deny the truth.  It often seems that the only bulwark between us and “1984” is a handful of dedicated investigative journalists.  And despite that small band of heroes regularly outing the liars and cheaters, it just goes on and on – our political and social leaders clearly think the rest of us are stupid and that, if they tell the same lies often enough, we’ll eventually believe them.

Today, our lives are oppressed by identity politics.  Minorities dominate and influence all aspects of public administration and truth telling, through the ever present threat of mud slinging and prosecution for expressing an opinion.  So, truth has become the greatest casualty as our civic leaders lie to us – Islamist jihadis don’t commit acts of terrorism, it’s just that one or two of them have a mental illness.  Sudanese aren’t violent home invaders en masse, it’s just a couple of bad ‘uns.

Isolated cases of mental illness don’t justify the cost of erecting bollard and concrete block barriers.  These are responses to a perceived high level of threat posed by dark age zealots dedicated to systematically destroying our liberal Western way of life.

What’s the easiest way to change the future ?  Well, deny a generation or two access to the truths and facts of history, by changing its teaching.  A 2017 audit of the teaching of history at Australian universities revealed the impact of the ideology that drives identity politics.  Many history departments no longer offer learning about the historical heritage that lead to the founding of our western liberal democracies, preferring to offer subject areas focussed on race, gender, class, environment and identity.

How does failed left-ism get another chance at dominance ?  By hiding the failures and atrocities of the past.  Read more about this in Face the Facts Volume 4, Edition 1 ….
